A different approach to ownership
Wilkin & Sons has a long history of employee involvement in the business.
Employees first became shareholders in 1910 and today the employee benefit trust owns more than 52% of the company's voting rights.
This ownership structure is important to understanding Wilkin & Sons. It supports the independence of the business and encourages a long-term perspective: commercial success enables the organisation to continue investing in its people, its businesses and the communities of which it is part.
Wilkin & Sons is the largest employer in Tiptree and many of its people live locally, with several generations of the same families often working across the business. There is a strong sense of responsibility for both the organisation and the community around it.
That long-term outlook is reflected in the way the business approaches sustainability too. From investment in water management and renewable energy to responsible farming and biodiversity, looking after the land and resources on which the business depends is an important part of thinking for future generations.
