The Chairperson Opportunity
A significant Chairperson transition
Walter Scott will step down as Chairman of Wilkin & Sons in September 2027 after ten years in the role, following his earlier career as Managing Director of the business.
His long association with Wilkin & Sons has provided continuity, deep knowledge of the organisation and a strong connection with its heritage and values.
His final year as Chairman also coincides with his appointment as President of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, reflecting his longstanding involvement with the Association and Wilkin & Sons' own Royal Warrant heritage.
For the first time, Wilkin & Sons intends to appoint an external independent Chairperson, bringing additional perspective and experience to the Board at an important point in the organisation's development.
The intention is for the new Chairperson to join in approximately March 2027, allowing time for a considered induction and handover before Walter formally steps down in September. This will enable the incoming Chairperson to spend time across the Group, build relationships with the Board, leadership team, Employee Benefit Trust and other key stakeholders, and become involved in the development of the strategy and longer-term plans.
The Role
The new Chairperson will join Wilkin & Sons at a point when heritage, opportunity and important long-term choices come together.
It is a rare opportunity to contribute to the next chapter of a distinctive British business: working alongside Chris Newenham, the Board and leadership team as they pursue their ambitions for growth and make decisions whose impact will extend considerably beyond the Chairperson's own tenure.
The successful candidate will bring relevant commercial experience, independent perspective and thoughtful challenge, combined with an appreciation of the values, heritage and long-term stewardship that make Wilkin & Sons distinctive.
